Many people now have a strong desire to reduce their carbon emissions and use sustainable energy within their home and work environments. Various products and methods of utilising sustainable energy can be provided with varying levels of practicality and efficiency.
However more homeowners are becoming aware of the fact that one of the main contributors to UK carbon emissions is domestic heating, Heating is the basic requirement in any home and domestic heating accounts for over 35% of the overall CO2 emissions for the UK each year.
Therefore homeowners understand that their own base heating requirement is their most important opportunity to reduce carbon emissions, they also save on fuel used and provide a sustainable answer to the main area of carbon emissions in their own home.
Householders have found that heating is genuinely their biggest opportunity to use renewable energy, their own domestic heating can account for 60% of the carbon dioxide emissions in their own home.
Heat Pumps can provide a renewable & sustainable solution to their main target area for carbon emissions within the home.
Home owners are now able to practically provide a solution to the area where they can make the biggest year round carbon reductions as a practical and cost effective Heat Pump system reduces both their carbon emissions and also their heating costs.
Now that their most important base requirement is covered, homeowners are finding that other renewable products can offer additional benefits Once their main renewable energy opportunity is dealt with i.e. domestic heating, homeowners are exploring other ways to use sustainable energy, for example a well designed solar system can enhance the performance of a Heat Pump system by gaining a further amount of renewable energy. However if this same solar system was installed with a boiler the real benefits could be questionable as the carbon emissions from the boiler could outweigh the small benefits gained from the solar system.
Heat Pump use has increased dramatically over the past five years; this high rate of installations has been driven by environmental demand and also the fact that more homeowners are becoming increasingly aware of the simplicity and benefits of Heat Pump systems within their own home.
A restaurant and bar needed to install a VRF system to provide heating and air-conditioning throughout their facility. The restaurant also needed to install a boiler for heating domestic hot water for the kitchen and toilet areas.
The contractor examined the option of utilising an Air Source Heat Pump system and determined that the system would be both cost effective and environmentally efficient, but also importantly the Air Source Heat Pump would provide high grade domestic hot water for the kitchen & toilet areas of the facility.
Also the amount of refrigerant gas in the system was also significantly reduced as the heat transfer would now be achieved using low pressure water rather than high pressure refrigerant gas pipe work running throughout the restaurant.
The system provides definite benefits when the F Gas regulations are taken into account as the refrigerant gas charge is greatly reduced and also the refrigeration system is fully self contained within the Heat Pump, hence the potential risk of a refrigerant leak is reduced considerably.
An Air Source Heat Pump package was installed to provide an extremely cost effective, environmentally efficient and well designed heating & cooling system that can be used throughout the year with the added benefit of also providing high grade simultaneous domestic hot water.
A DeLonghi-Climaveneta Air Source Heat Pump provided the user with a very cost effective alternative to a VRF or VRV system but with some really significant benefits
This system will provide Air Conditioning or Heating whilst simultaneously delivering water at over 60 deg C.
Contractors are now able to offer Commercial Heat Pumps with the DHW option and provide turnkey solutions to their clients offering simultaneous hot water whilst providing heating and air-conditioning along with the added benefit of a much reduced risk of refrigerant leakage from the system.
Arena Business Centre is a serviced office provider on the South Coast, providing high quality office space to a number of blue chip clients. A new development at their Poole centre has just been completed offering sixteen mezzanine studios ranging from 650 to 1300 sq ft. Built to the latest design specifications Arena were looking for a heating solution that would be cost effective and efficient to run with low carbon emissions.

After a thorough site survey from an applications engineer Arena were satisfied that a Commercial Air Source Heat Pump solution would provide the efficiency and performance that could deliver them reduced fuel costs and a low level of carbon emissions.
It was important for Arena to talk through their requirements of a comfortable working environment for their clients. The key consideration was the rising cost of heating bills and the environmental benefits that the heat pump technology could bring. The solution provides a cost effective, low maintenance and environmentally friendly alternative to conventional heating methods.
A state of the art Air Source Heat Pump manufactured by DeLonghi-Climaveneta was recommended. We provide a complete service which includes system design, specification, installation support and after sales service for Commercial Air Source, Commercial Ground Source and Geothermal Heat Pumps.
The Product: A DeLonghi-Climaveneta 200kW packaged Air Source Heat Pump system.
This Heat Pump unit benefits from an integral buffer vessel and pump unit which provides hot water circulation to the underfloor heating system within the mezzanine units. The system is unobtrusive, low key and out of sight. The innovative scroll compressors within the system feature high efficiency, low vibration and low noise emissions making them particularly suitable for an office environment.
As a result of the Heat Pump installation the heating system is
extremely environmentally efficient providing reductions in carbon
emissions of over 50%.
The high efficiency levels of this multi circuit Heat Pump system will
also ensure a 55% saving in annual electricity consumption when compared
to a conventional oil fired system.
We were able to select a model to meet the exact requirements of the project from the extensive Climaveneta range which provides a range of Heat Pumps with varying capacities to cover any commercial application.
The main challenge was in providing the most efficient, reliable and value for money package for Arena. Arena will receive planned maintenance to ensure the equipment performs throughout its lifetime providing a long term low maintenance renewable energy heating system.
‘We are extremely pleased with the performance and efficiency of the
heat pump technology. Our previous centres are conventionally heated; in
contrast this new technology will deliver on a number of areas including
energy savings and enable us to reduce to our carbon footprint. We will
look to introduce this technology into our new centres going forward’,
