Heat Pumps have been used in many commercial applications for the last thirty years. The units used have been direct expansion split units which provide reliable heating using energy collected from the external ambient along with also providing air conditioning.

These VRF systems use an external condenser and internal fan coils / air handlers to facilitate temperature control with high pressure refrigerant gas used as the means of heat transfer throughout the building.

However with increasing pressure on air conditioning & refrigerant gas in general resulting from the introduction of the F Gas regulations the practice of installing Direct Expansion VRF / VRV systems with large volumes of gas has to be re-examined.

Therefore Commercial Air Source Heat pumps can provide a real alternative here and not only do they offer performance that can match that of VRF systems but they also offer other benefits by not only offering very efficient heating and cooling but also simultaneously providing domestic hot water. Couple to this a very simple pipework installation using flexible low pressure water pipe throughout the building and these systems are seen to be practical, environmentally efficient and cost effective.

However it is also possible to use Commercial Geothermal Heat Pumps with similar benefits to provide climate control using the energy that can be extracted from the ground around and below the building. Boreholes can be used to collect heat along with potentially utilising the piles that form the foundation of the building i.e. heat can be cost effectively collected using energy piles.

Both these methods of heat collection allow Commercial Geothermal Heat Pumps to be installed practically giving an efficient means of heating and air conditioning that can give real cost savings as well as significant reductions in carbon emissions when compared to conventional systems.
